Okemah

Okemah is located in eastern Oklahoma and is the county seat of Okfuskee County. It is north of the North Canadian River and Interstate 40/U.S. Highway 62.

The town is best known as the birthplace of folk singer/songwriter Woody Guthrie. Among his songs of the "Dust Bowl" era of the 1930's was This Land is Your Land. As a teenager he performed at the still-operating Crystal Theater which was built in 1921.

The Okfuskee County Historical Museum displays photographs of the Guthrie family as well as those of early settlers and American Indians of the mid-1800s. Additional attractions include the Territory Town Museum.
