The Rideau Canal connects the Ottawa River at Ottawa with Lake Ontario at Kingston. It is approximately 123 miles long and has 47 locks. It stretches from Kingston, at the foot of Lake Ontario, to Ottawa, Canada's capital. It was completed in 1832 and was intended as a sfear route for gunboats and military supplies between Montreal and the Great Lakes.
