Located at the western end of Lake Superior
, Thunder Bay is Canada's third largest port and has an impressive harbor with facilities to store more than 100 million bushels of grain. A relatively new city, Thunder Bay was formed in 1970 when Fort William and Port Arthur were combined. The city boasts a network of individually landscaped gardens, known as the International Friendship Gardens, which were designed by and represent a variety of ethnic groups. Thunder Bay celebrates its rustic past with the Great Rendezvous Pageant at Old Fort William in early July. The pageant re-enacts a fur trader's rendezvous.
