It was named after a town in Yorkshire, England, and there are many examples of 19th-century architecture around the city. The Port Whitby Marina offers opportunities for fishing and boating, and visitors can hike along the Waterfront Trail. Other activities in the area are bicycling, golfing, cross-country skiing, and picnicking in one of the city's many parks.
