Located on Cox Island near Florence. Cox Island is a 187-acre estuary reserve owned by the Nature conservancy. A refuge for 80 species of birds.
The house itself may be the inspiration the Stamper house in Ken Kesey's "Sometimes a Great Notion".
While only 1.7 miles from Florence, it is across the river. Access is via Mapleton, which is 14 miles east on Highway 126. Turn onto Sweet Creek Road off Highway 126 (immediately east of the bridge over the Siuslaw River). Proceed Downriver to South Bank Road which leads to the reserve.
