Mount Emily Bombsite Trail

Search Brookings Oregon

This is one of only two sites in the continental United States that have been bombed by a foreign power. During World War II, a Japanese pilot dropped an incendiary bomb on this location. Three weeks later, the plane dropped incendiary bombs near Port Orford. Neither bombing caused significant damage.

The trail extends from South Bank Road, six miles on Wheeler Creek Road to the east side of Mount Emily. The hiking trail continues one half mile to the top and affords a fine view of mountains and coastline.
