Located south of the Bandon, the New River ACEC consists of 1,100 acres and is managed by the Bureau of Land Management to provide a protective habitat for hundreds of birds, animals and reptiles.
Birds like the elusive and threatened snowy plover and the endangered western lilycan be found among the outlying reaches of this river. Other waterfowl, such as the Aleutian Cackling (or Canada) Geese come to the river’s wetlands during spring migration, often numbering thousands.
