The name PAWN is derived from an early 1900's community near where the trail is located, taking one letter from each last name of four pioneer families. The 4000-foot loop trail is set in 10 acres of old growth forest. Allow 45 minutes to an hour of hiking. The difficulty is moderate. To reach the trail, drive one mile east of Florence on Highway 126, then 12 miles upriver on the North Fork Siuslaw Road. Then five miles straight on Upper North Fork Road. Keep right and cross the bridge to get to the trailhead parking lot.
Self-guided brochures are available thru the Mapleton Ranger District.
