Triangle Lake

Triangle Lake is in the the Siuslaw Watershed, in the Coast Range Mountains. This sub-basin is composed of eight watersheds, which are all within the boundaries of Lane County. Although technically a sub-basin, the Siuslaw River has its own watershed council.

A recreational lake with many homes on the lake itself. The lake covers 293 acres and is fed by Post Creek and Little Lake Creek. The area is very busy in the summer as it has campsites and a church conference center in the hamlet of Triangle Lake. The community is small and the area isn't generally upscale.

Large mouth bass and bluegill are worth going after. This prominent lake west of Blachly is named because of its shape. Before the completion of Fern Ridge Lake, it was the most popular local spot for water sports and it still has a large following.

Location: The lake is on Highway 36. There are three ways to get there.

  • Going north from Eugene on Highway 99-North take the Highway 36 exit going west. From Cheshire it is approximately 21 miles to the parking lot at Triangle Lake.
  • From Mapleton, follow Highway 36-North to the lake.
  • From Veneta, at Highway 126, go north through Elmira to Warthen Road. Turn left and follow to the Highway 36 junction. Turn left agian and follow to the lake.

Driving Advice: This is a slow, winding mountain road. While well paved and maintained, extra driving caution is advised. Deer and elk sometimes cross the road, and there have been Bigfoot sightings in the Triangle Lake area over the years. Did I say this is a beautiful drive? No? Well, it is a beautiful drive.
