The county seat of Washington County, Oregon, is Hillsboro. The county population on July 1, 1999, was 409,305, an increase of 97,751 over the 1990 census. Washington County is 727 square miles containing the high-growth western suburbs of Portland, it moved from fifth to second largest in population in the period since 1960. The largest city is Beaverton. Others include Forest Grove, home of Pacific University. Highway 26 passes through Washington County, connecting Portland with the Oregon Coast.
