Franklin is located in Venango County, of which it is the county seat. It is situated southeast of Meadville along Highway 322 on the banks of the Allegheny River near Oil Creek State Park.
Franklin is known as the Victorian City. The area was a key spot during the French and Indian War. Following the discovery of oil in nearby Titusville, Franklin became a center for world-wide oil production.
Music lovers enjoy a tradition in Franklin. Since 1856, the Franklin Silver Cornet Band has entertained audiences as one of America's oldest volunteer community bands. Also in Franklin, visit DeBence Antique Music World, featuring a collection of over 100 antique automated music machines, and recognized as one of the Top Ten Travel Destinations in Pennsylvania.
