Jeannette is located in western Pennsylvania, within Westmoreland County, just southeast of Pittsburgh along Highway 130. Jeannette is part of the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania metro area.

The Battle of Bushy Run occurred near Jeanette in Pontiac's War of 1763 in which troops were ambushed by Native Americans, whom they defeated a day later. This battle was the most decisive victory of the war.
