The Central Region of South Carolina, also known as Santee Cooper Country, boasts 171,000 acres of land covered by six and a half million gallons of water, including two lakes, two rivers, two canals, and a vast swamp (plus 450 miles of shoreline). Anglers will enjoy catching the famous landlocked striped bass at Lakes Lake Marion and Moultrie, and hunters can hunt for whitetail deer and small game.

Golf lovers will be attracted to the many 18-hole courses within a 45-minute drive of Santee. Other attractions include museums, parks, lovely flower gardens, plantation homes, nature trails, historic battle grounds, lake and river tours and much more.

Places to stay are abundant, from full-service motels to lake cabins and more than 1,000 campsites. Dining experiences range from Southern home cooking and traditional barbecue to a local favorite, fried catfish.
