In Black Hills, Badlands & Lakes Region, Murdo is located in Jones County (of which it is the county seat) southwest of Pierre on I-90 where US 83 connects. It is on the border of Central and Mountain time zones.

It is largely dependent upon tourism (see Attractions, below) to support its agricultural base.

Sully County Fair Onida SD August9-12 kicking off the fair with a parade through Onida on Thursday, at 6:27 p.m. The parade will end up at the fairgrounds where we will be having cake, refreshments and music.
