Silver City is located in the Pennington County, off US 385 in Black Hills, Badlands & Lakes Region, near the Rapid City, South Dakota metro area. When General George A. Custer was in the Black Hills in 1874, he referred to the area as Elkhorn Prairie. For many years an active mining town, Silver City is known for its legends of lost mines. Today, the town is a resort area at the head of Pactola Lake, but enough relics from its mining days remain to give it ghost town status as well.

Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Sturgis SD August5-11 Since 1938, Sturgis has welcomed motorcycle enthusiasts from across the United States and around the world to the annual Motorcycle Rally. Based out of this small community in the northern Black Hills, the Rally officially runs for seven days every August.
