Search Hot Springs South Dakota

Covering almost 30,000 acres in the Black Hills, Wind Cave National Park is about ten miles north of Hot Springs on Hwy 385. Wind Cave was discovered in 1881. It gets its names from the winds that blow alternately in and out of the mouth of the cave, caused by changes in atmospheric pressure.

A self-guiding nature trail to the summit of Rankin Ridge offers excellent vistas of the Black Hills. Five different guided cave tours are conducted. The park is open daily 24 hours. Reservations are recommended for the candlelight and spelunking tours.
