The city of Swift Current began as a Canadian Pacific Railway bridge and water depot after the French traders christened it "Riviere Au Courant". Settlers began arriving from the British Isles, Europe, and Eastern Canada at the turn of the century. These people founded the economy on ranching and farming. In 1914 Swift Current grew into one of the first cities in Saskatchewan.
