Brazosport is on Hwy 288 where the Brazos River meets the Gulf of Mexico, 60 miles south of Houston in southern Brazoria County. It is a 214-square-mile urbanized industrial and port area.

According to some sources the popular name was first used in eighteenth-century nautical charts.

Eleven cities at the mouth of the Brazos River constitute Brazosport. They are Angleton, Brazoria, Clute, Freeport, Jones Creek, Lake Jackson, Oyster Creek, Quintana Beach, Richwood, Surfside Beach, and West Columbia.

Recreational activities include freshwater and saltwater fishing, swimming, boating, surfing and crabbing.
