Operated by the City of Port Lavaca, the fishing pier is on 10.8 acres and extends into Lavaca Bay. The facility is actually the old State Highway 35, which was destroyed in 1961 by Hurricane Carla. It was converted into a 3200-foot fishing pier by Texas State Parks. About 1200 feet were lost to a lightning-caused fire in 1999.

The pier is adjacent to the City of Port Lavaca's Lighthouse Beach, Bird Sanctuary and RV Park.
