Starr Family State Historical Park

Search Marshall Texas

The park features the 150-year history of the Starr family in Texas and four generations of construction and adaptations to the site from the late 19th to the late 20th centuries.

Rosemont became the home of James Harper and Harriet Johnson Starr in 1870. Maplecroft, the centerpiece of the complex, was built from 1870 to 1871 by James Harper Starr's son, James Franklin Starr. The Starr-Blake home was built in the early 20th century for Ruth Starr (Blake). The Starr family continued to occupy the estate until it became a state park in 1985.

There are guided and self-guided tours of the three homes, as well as special Christmas and spring tours.
