This 664-acre park is in two sections, historical and recreational. The first section is centered around an old ferry crossing at the Brazos river and includes a replica of Austin's dog-run log cabin of his early days, and the dominating magnificent statue of Austin as Father of Texas. And first built in 1847 and the now restored J.J. Josey Store is a museum displaying merchandise from the pioneer era. (Open weekends; admission). Recreation includes picnic, camping and trailer sites, group rec hall with kitchen, screened shelters and golf course; also dining hall. Nature trails and fishing in the Brazos River.
