The cathedral dates from 1871, and is the third oldest Episcopal cathedral in the United States and it is Utahs oldest non-LDS church. St. Mark is home to a rare Mirrlees chamber organ built in Scotland and imported to Utah.

For that reason, many residents of the Valley wanted to reestablish their Welsh roots. In 2005, after a 90 year break, this annual cultural event, now called the Malad Valley Welsh Festival, once again became a reality.
