The refuge is located on a stretch of undeveloped land along the banks of the Green River. Visitors are allowed to walk or drive through the site, which is open daily. The refuge covers more than 11,000 acres, and is a safe haven for all kinds of birds and wildlife. Included is desert uplands, wetlands, and riverine and cottonwood forest. The Refuge includes critical habitat for the endangered Colorado pike minnow and razorback sucker.
