The Academy of Music Theatre, built in 1905 and rebuilt after a fire in 1911, is destined to become the centerpiece once again of Lynchburg cultural activity. The facility is currently undergoing a series of studies to bring its functions into the fullest vision possible for the 21st century. This centrally located, easily accessible auditorium will bring to the Central Virginia region a broad selection of professional performers and provide elegant (and sorely needed) performance space for local performing arts groups. As the centerpiece of a broadly conceived arts facility with new reception areas and supplemental services, the Academy of Music Theatre will once again become a hub of activity at the top of Main Street. Come visit this living monument to the fine culture and exuberant devotion to the arts that once made Lynchburg the most sought-after stop in the itineraries of touring performers.
