Governor's Palace - Williamsburg

The Governor's Palace was completed in 1722 under the supervision of Governor Alexander Spotswood. The original building was destroyed by fire a year later while being used as a military hospital. It was reconstructed on its original foundations by Colonial Williamsburg in 1930. The Williamsburg Model School (Matthew Whaley Grammar School) and the Williamsburg High School were demolished to allow reconstruction to proceed. The palace is reconstructed and furnished with period antiques.
