Wytheville is located in Wythe County, of which it is the county seat, 72 miles SW of Roanoke between Marion and Pulaski along Interstate 81 in the Western Region of the state. Wytheville is a transportation and vacation center in the Blue Ridge Highlands, historically important from the American Indian settlement at Wolf Creek Indian Village to the Revolutionary and Civil wars. Outdoor recreational activities include hiking, biking and water sports. Chautauqua in the Park, held in mid-June, focuses on the visual and performing arts with live entertainment and children's activities. Pre-Civil War homes and Wytheville's historic district are the highlights of a walking tour brochure available at the visitor center. Wytheville is located in southwestern Virginia, on I81; Shot Tower Historic State Park is nearby.
