Search Brookfield Vermont

Brookfield is located in Orange County. It is the site of the famous Floating Bridge, buoyed by 380 barrels - the only floating bridge in Vermont. The 300-foot bridge spans Sunset Lake, which is too deep to support a pillared structure. In January it is a coveted viewing point for one of New England's last remaining ice harvest festivals, an opportunity to see how ice was harvested from the lake at the turn of the 20th century. The event includes an ice cutting demonstration and the boom used to move blocks of ice to wagons. An ice hauling contest, ice sculpting and a chance to try out hand-made snowshoes round out the occasion. Brookfield also is the home of Vermont's first library.
