Fairlee (pop. 967) is located in Orange County, 20 miles north of Lebanon along Interstate 91 on the banks of the Connecticut River near Fairlee Lake and Dartmouth Skiway Ski Area.

Fairlee was chartered on September 5, 1761 and its area is 21 square miles. It originally included the town of West Fairlee, which was split off as a separate entity in 1797. The largest body of water in town is Lake Morey, named for Samuel Morey, thought by many to be the actual inventor of the steamboat. Morey also patented a kerosene-fueled internal combustion engine.
