Shelburne is located in southwest Chittenden County, seven miles south of Burlington along Highway 7 on the shores of Lake Champlain. The Adirondack Mountains lie to the west and the Green Mountains to the east.

Shelburne is Vermont's largest retirement community. Local attractions include the Vermont Teddy Bear Company and Shelburne Museum, a living history museum considered by many to be the best in New England. Shelburne is part of the Burlington, Vermont metro area.
