Strafford is located in Orange County, 29 miles northwest of Lebanon along Highway 132.

It was chartered on August 12, 1761 and its population according to the 2000 U.S. Census was 1,045.

Strafford is the home of Justin S. Morrill, who served more than 40 years in Washington D.C. He helped bring into being such places as the Washington Monument and Library of Congress.
