Search Walden Vermont

Rural Walden (pop. 749) is located in Caledonia County between St. Johnsbury and Hyde Park on Highway 15.

Chartered on August 18, 1781, Walden was settled by Nathaniel Perkins and family, who were the only settlers for three years.

A point of interest is the historic 54-mile-long Bayley-Hazen Road (1776 - 1779), almost five miles of which runs through Walden's western side. This road was constructed for military purposes during the Revolutionary War. As it turned out, it was not of much value for that, but it proved to be useful after the war by allowing good access into the interior of northern Vermont and helping to speed its settlement.

Walden is blessed with terrific fall colors.
