Gig Harbor

Search Gig Harbor Washington

Founded in 1946, Gig Harbor is located on a small bay across the Tacoma Narrows Bridge from Tacoma, and is considered one of the most picturesque small cities in America.

The bay was discovered by chance by the 1841 Wilkes expedition who were seeking refuge from a storm. They named the Harbor for their "gig," a type of boat. Gig Harbor still provides shelter - not for explorers, but for commercial fishing boats and pleasure craft. The town offers breathtaking views of Mount Rainier. Gig Harbor is part of the Tacoma, WA metro area.
