Potholes derives its name from the geologic formations of the area. Shallow depressions created during the Pleistocene flooding are now lakes.

The park is situated on the reservoir created by construction of O'Sullivan Dam, and features sand beaches and many recreational activities including boating, camping, fishing, hiking, picnicking and playground activities.

The Washington State Parks system includes more than 125 developed parks and includes about a quarter million acres. To make a reservation at more then 60 Washington state parks, contact Washington State Parks from May 15 to Sept. 15.
