Roslyn, founded in 1886, at one time contained some of the most extensive coal fields on the west coast. Although the last of the coal mines closed in the late 1960's, Roslyn retains vestiges of its 1920's heyday, when the population peaked at 4,000.
The television series "Northern Exposure" was filmed in town.
There are many old buildings in Roslyn, including the Roslyn Theater, The Immaculate Conception church, and the Brick Tavern, which is the oldest operating saloon in the state of Washington. A number of structures in town have been placed on the National Historic Register. The Old City Cemetery is worth a visit too.
Roslyn is near Interstate 90 west of Cle Elum in Kittitas County.
There is also a Roslyn, New York.
