Sweetwater County, known as High Desert Country, has a year-round climate that is unique to the region: getting over 300 sunny days annually. Hiway 28 parallels several Pioneer wagon trails. These trails remain in captivating condition, untouched for generations. In fact, over 100 miles of trail ruts in the county remain the way they were 150 years ago. Sweetwater County is also known as the Trona Capital of the World. Trona (A rare mineral) is mined and processed into Soda Ash. Sweetwater Countyalso includes the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, a remarkable formation, as well as the towns of Green River and Rock Springs. The Red Desert is in the N section of the county.
The county seat of Sweetwater County is Green River. County pop. in 1999, was 39,322, an increase of 499 over the 1990 census.
