The town is surrounded by over 260,000 acres of farmland, and a million acres of land for cattle grazing. An aqueduct, which was used up till 1977, has been preserved as a monument to the agriculturalists and engineers who helped develop the region. Part of the region is the setting for wildlife and horticultural research centers.
