El Dorado Gold Mine

An Adventure for the Whole Family!

This two-hour tour of a historic, working gold mine begins with a ride aboard the Tanana Valley Railroad, a narrow gauge train. Passengers ride through a permafrost tunnel, past Fox Creek, to El Dorado Camp.

Visitors watch a modern sluice box in operation and listen to stories of life in the mining camps.

Enjoy a walking tour of the mining camp, then try your own hand at panning for gold. After complimentary cookies and coffee, board the train for the short ride back to the station, nine miles north of Fairbanks at Fox.
