This Historic Military Installations is the highest coastal battery ever constructed in the U.S., looming nearly 1,000 ft above the Bering Sea. The fort was one of four coastal defense posts built to protect Dutch Harbor during WWII. At one time there were over 100 buildings at Fort Schwatka.

Today, the gun mounts and lookouts at Fort Schwatka are among the most intact in the country.
