Pelican is located on the eastern shore of Lisianski Inlet on
Chichagof Island. The town is connected to the mainland by the
Alaska Marine Highway and floatplane service.
There are no cars on the island. Commercial fishing and seafood processing is the main industry. The town is close to the Fairweather salmon fishing grounds. Most of the town is built on pilings over tidelands.
