Poker Flat is the world's only non-federal, university-owned and operated rocket range. The 5,132-acre site is located about 30 miles northeast of Fairbanks and is operated by the University of Alaska Geophysical Institute. The range has been in operation since 1968, and is funded through contracts with NASA. Tours are offered in the summer.
