Shageluk is located on the east bank of the Innoko River, which drains into the
Yukon River. Shageluk is Deb Hit'an Athabascan community, and became one of the permanent communities in the area. The city was incorporated in 1970.
Shageluk is a check point for the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
