This refuge covers approximately 6500 acres and includes a 40-acre freshwater lake. The refuge is open year-round during daylight hours for hiking, fishing, wildlife observation, photography, and nature study. The refuge is home to hundreds of species of birds, indigenous plants and animals including both threatened and endangered species such as the Loggerhead Turtle, Alabama Beach Mouse, The Gopher Tortoise and the American Alligator.
