Centre

Centre has a rich history including John Jonathan Pratt, who invented the first typewriter. He resided in Centre until the eruption of the Civil War after which he died in 1905.


Centre is located in Cherokee County (North Region) 23 miles NE of Gadsden along Highway 411 on the banks of the Weiss Lake River.
It is an activity oriented city that houses a city park, tennis courts, youth baseball, fields for Major Leage Sports, soccer field, volley ball courts, walking track, and a swimming pool. The city also has heritage in their Cherokee County Christmas Parade, Fall Festival, and Miss Snowflake.
Centre is home to Weiss Lake & Dam where it is surrounded by 33,000 acres of beautiful blue water. The lake is known as "The Crappie Capitol Of The World".
