Named for the fort built during the forced removal of Indians along the Trail of Tears, Fort Payne is now home to a thriving community supporting local schools and community development.
The city is located in De De Kalb County (North Region), northeast of Gadsden between Collinsville and Hammondville along Highway 11 near the Little River Canyon National Preserve and the Desoto State Park.
Some of the local attractions to the area are the Fort Payne Depot Museum, the DeSoto State Park, and the Little River Canyon National Preserve.
