Fort Conde

The fort served as an administrative and military center of the Louisiana Territory. The fort, originally known as Fort Louis de la Louisiane, was occupied successively by French, English and Spanish troops. Reconstructed and furnished as it appeared in 1702, the fort features facsimiles of 18th-century artillery demonstrated by costumed tour guides. Exhibit rooms contain the equipment and stores once necessary for the fort's operation. The Fort Conde Museum displays artifacts recovered from excavations on the site of the original fort. Fort Conde is also the official welcome center for the city of Mobile.
