This historical site contains reconstructions of Forts Toulouse and Jackson. Demonstrations and re-enactments of such 18th- and 19th-century practices as cooking, trading, dugout canoe making and blacksmithing are held the third weekend of each mont h. Also fratured is the William Bartram Arboretum; a boardwalk which meanders through wildflower fields, bogs and forests from the visitor's center to the fort and down to a river overlook. Shrubs and flowers are identified and picturesque ravine bridges, rest and study glades are situated at intervals. The arboretum, is named in honor of the 18th century naturalist, William Bartram. The Graves House Museum was origionally located in Lowndes County. This Tidewater cottage was moved to the park to avoid destruction. Built between 1825-1830 by David Graves, the son of a Revolutionary War hero, It has been restored by the Alabama Historical Commission and now serves as an interpretive center for the park.
