Calico Rock is located in
Izard County north of
Mountain View between
Norfork and Allison off of Hwy 5 near the Missouri border. Also, situated on the east edge of the
Ozark National Forest and along the banks of the
White River.
Legend says the town was named when an early explorer of the White River Valley saw the beautiful limestone bluff and called it "The Calico Rocks" because it resembled the calico fabric used to make women's dresses.
Calico Rock has fine schools, a hospital, and numerous retail establishments along with an old historic downtown area which caters to thousands of visitors each year. Many come to ride the scenic railroad train along the banks of the White River to Flippin or to fish in that same river, one of the finest trout streams in the nation.
