North Little Rock is located in Pulaski County north of Little Rock, between Conway and Pine Bluff, serving Interstates 40, 30, 530 and US Hwy's 67, 70 and 165. Also situated on the banks of the Arkansas River near Lake Maumelle. North Little Rock is part of the Little Rock-North Little Rock, Arkansas metro area.
In 1866, North Little Rock, originally named Argenta, was surveyed and platted. The name Argenta, meaning silver, referred to the silver mines north of the now North Little Rock.
