From 1869 to 1963, Powhatan served as county seat of western Lawrence County. Restored in 1970, the courthouse is a regional archive containing some of the oldest records in Arkansas, many of which predate statehood. Exhibits interpret the rich history of technology, politics and life styles that shaped north Arkansas. The park is on Ark. 25 in Powhatan (just three miles south of Black Rock.
