This is a private, 4-yr liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian Church and founded in 1834. It is the oldest institution of higher learning in the Arkansas/Oklahoma territory and the first co-educational school west of the Mississippi. The university has an enrollment of 600 students and offers undergraduate degrees in education, the humanities, fine arts, and sciences & mathematics, as well as a variety of pre-professional sequences, coaching endorsements and a marine biology program.

The 30-acre campus is is located on the north edge of Clarksville, 60 miles east of Fort Smith and 100 miles west of Little Rock, with access via I40. The campus' re-design is based on the Gothic architecture of the Raymond Munger Memorial Chapel, built in 1933, and is intended to re-create a European city. Visitor parking is available in lots off Buchanan & Justice streets and College Avenue.
